Calderdale College has unveiled its new state-of-the-art DigiHub – Creative & Media Studios, following a £1.5m refurbishment at its campus in Halifax.
Previously known as the College’s Enterprise Centre, DigiHub officially launched to employers and partners on Monday 12th November at a Grand Opening event.
The studios provide students with a modern space where they can work on real projects for employers and develop the skills required to secure a job in the Digital and Creative Industries. The facilities include a Cyber Security Lab, Motion Capture Studio, Games and Web Design Suite, Animation Studio, Music Production Suite and Digital Media Studio. The College also offers a range of amenities for businesses, such as design and commercial print services.
John Rees, Principal and Chief Executive of Calderdale College, said: “It was clear to us that we must invest in a sector which is fast-developing and growing. We needed to enhance our facilities to ensure we are supporting the digital and creative workforce of the future.”
“The finished product is an innovative and dynamic space that has top class facilities and equipment, enabling our students to have the best possible learning experience.”
Students studying in the DigiHub will also benefit from a new curriculum which the College has developed in collaboration with employers in the region.
Robin Smith, Curriculum Manager for Creative, Digital & Enterprise at Calderdale College, added: “The new facilities have allowed us to develop our curriculum to provide students with both the necessary qualifications and wider employability skills, through project-based learning where they work on live tasks for employers, such as Lloyds Banking Group and Covéa Insurance. This will help give them the qualities and competitive edge to improve their career prospects.”
